We Are Ghumantus at Heart.
“Ghumantu” (घुमंतू) is a Hindi word that defines the nomadic soul—someone who wanders not to escape life, but so life does not escape them.
Born on High Himalayan Trails
Bagpack Ghumantu was founded in 2021 by a tight-knit collective of certified mountaineers, backpackers, and digital nomads who were frustrated by the impersonal, overcrowded commercial bus tours dominating Indian travel.
We set out to create intimate, soulful, small-group journeys where travelers don’t just tick off sightseeing spots—they share hot chai under the starry skies of Spiti, swim in natural Khasi plunge pools, and leave as lifelong friends.
How We Travel Responsibly
Intimate Groups of 12-15
We reject mass tourism. Smaller groups allow us to stay at remote homestays, reduce footprint, and ensure individual safety.
Certified Safety Standards
Our trip leaders hold NIM / ABVIMAS mountaineering certifications, wilderness medical training, and carry full emergency backups.
Eco & Leave No Trace
We bring our trash back from trails and support community cleanup projects in high Himalayas and Northeast India.
Local Economic Empowerment
85% of trip revenue directly supports local mountain families, homestay owners, drivers, and indigenous guides.
